Hi there,

Welcome back to AI for Operators. Here’s what we’ve got for you this week:

The Operator

Marie leads Contracts & Operations at Sigma, an AI apps and analytics platform. Previously, she was in similar roles at Hubspot and Dapper Labs, and co-founded an AI project management company.

In my conversation with Marie, we cover the rapid advancement of AI in the legal space and how building the right systems can accelerate revenue. Plus, lots of takeaways for early-stage teams.

  • Legal ops is no longer an admin function: integrates with engineering, data, and marketing, building processes and owning implementation of AI systems to manage risk and eliminate bottlenecks.

  • Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM - sexy!): integrates with CRM to automate NDAs, MSAs, DPAs (and lots of other three letter acronyms). The goal? Common data across systems and closing deals faster.

  • Using Glean to expand enablement: Glean’s natural-language search provides employees with answers, reducing repeated questions and speeding up onboarding across sales, product, marketing, and people operations.

  • Centralizing systems in Slack: Slack bots intake requests and answer status checks, Gmail integration reduces back and forth, and AI extracts specific fields for Salesforce.

  • The advantage of combining data: blending GTM, finance, and contract data exposes bottlenecks, quantifies discount leakage from long sales cycles, and highlights template fixes to reduce churn.

  • The emerging trend in NDAs: a notable rise in requests to prohibit AI training on customer data.

  • How does this apply to early stage operators? Playbooks help companies scale faster. The time tax from messy file storage, non-standard templates, and untrustworthy metrics can kill progress. By cleaning this up from the beginning and using AI to enforce and enable, operators speed the company up.

  • Zoom-out takeaway: cross-functional operators who speak different corporate languages (e.g. legal and sales, or product and marketing) will benefit from the convergence of systems and increasingly powerful workflows.
